Research Gap

There seems to be a temporal research gap in my topic, Gender Bias in Technical Communication. The sources I found were from the 1990s and 2000s, indicating that updated research is needed. Due to this, there's also a gap in the consideration of technology. The internet has changed, and so have general societal values. These new values pose an opportunity to research how gender bias has continued and if attempts to remedy bias have proven effective.

  1. Madison, I think this is shaping up to be a great research topic. Especially since there hasn't been much research done recently, your research will be a great asset to the technical writing community.

  2. I think you've found a good opportunity in your topic, Madison. Without recent research into your topic, updates are in demand. It might be the case that adjacent fields have advanced significantly, but that technical communication practices have remained stagnant or haven't implemented theory into practice, leaving the environment rich for research and discovery.

  3. Hi Madi,

I think your blog #3 suggests great possibilities for research on gender bias in technical communication from a rhetorical standpoint. After reading your Lit. Review writing assignment, I really like your idea of trying to see if you can propose something that might provide new data based on modern technologies -- of course, these data would probably substantiate your sources' claims with more insights and reflections on the rhetoric of gender.

Upon execution of your research design/method, such a rhetorical angle should be a welcome addition to PTW scholarship. :) Whether you realize it or not, I believe you've established a good opening/edge here to pursue your topic all the more. Am looking forward to chatting with you more about your proposal.

    Best,
    Dr. B
